Mizzou Blows Out Texas Tech in Big 12 Regular Season Finale
LUBBOCK, TX -- The 2011-2012 Missouri Tigers became the winningest team in program history with a 81-59 win over Texas Tech Saturday, its 27th victory of the season.
Four Tiger seniors finished in double figures and helped No. 8 Missouri (27-4, 14-4 Big 12) overcome a sluggish first half. Kim English led all scorers with 20 points. Matt Pressey added 14, all of which came in the first 22 minutes. Marcus Denmon's 17 points all came in the final 18. Junior Michael Dixon finished with 13 points.
Ricardo Ratliffe dominated on the boards, recording a season-high 15 rebounds. He also had 13 points on 5 for 8 shooting. Ratliffe finishes the season with a shooting percentage of 71, breaking the school record, but falling 3.6 percent shy of the national record set by Oregon State's Steve Johnson in 1981. Jaye Crockett scored 17 points to lead Texas Tech (8-22, 1-17 Big 12).
After giving up the first basket of the game, the Tigers never trailed. English and Matt Pressey were on fire early, as they scored the Tigers' first 17 points. A three-pointer by Red Raider guard Luke Adams cut the lead to one with five minutes to play in the half. A put back dunk by Ricardo Ratliffe slowed Texas Tech's momentum, as the Tigers clung to a 32-28 halftime lead.
Marcus Denmon was held scoreless in the first half for the first time all season, but he exploded in the second half, hitting five-three pointers. Leading 44-38 with 13 minutes left, the Tigers went on a 14-2 run, keyed by lights-out three-point shooting. Missouri drained 16 of 27 shots from beyond the arc, a season-high.
Mizzou may be saying goodbye to the Big 12 regular season, but the Tigers aren't rid of the Red Raiders just yet. Missouri will be the No. 2 seed in next week's Big 12 Tournament, which begins on Wednesday. It will play the winner of the No. 10 seed Texas Tech and No. 7 Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
