COLUMBIA -- University of Missouri divers David Bonuchi and Loren Figueroa were named the Southeastern Conference Male and Female Divers of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Both Tigers were honored for the second time this season.
A Columbia, Mo., native, Bonuchi claimed the 1-meter diving title at the Mizzou Invite last weekend. His finals score of 415.16, which was just under 100 points more than his next closest competitor, is the second-highest output by an SEC diver this season and just over one point behind the highest total. So far this season, Bonuchi has won the last seven diving events he has competed in and has 17 career titles with the Tigers.
Figueroa, who hails from Oklahoma City, Okla., won both the 1 and 3-meter diving titles at the Mizzou Invite. She scored 310.20 points in the 1-meter and 347.95 points in the 3-meter to claim top honors. Both of her victories on the weekend came by at least 35 points. Over the course of the season, Figueroa is undefeated in the 1-meter and has six total event wins.
The honor marks the sixth career weekly award for Figueroa, who claimed SEC Female Diver of the Week honors on Oct. 16, and won Big 12 Conference Diver of the Week accolades twice in 2010 and once in 2011.
Bonuchi has now earned three conference honors in his career, as he earned SEC Male Diver of the Week on Oct. 23 and Big 12 Diver of the Week on Dec. 15, 2010.
