Mizzou's Murphy Named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week
COLUMBIA -- In the first game as a member of the Southeastern Conference, Missouri beat Southeastern Louisiana, 62-10. 12 of those points were scored by sophomore tailback/punt returner Marcus Murphy. On Monday, the SEC recognized Murphy's game by naming him the first SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for the 2012 season.
The pair of punts he returned for touchdowns accumulated 206 all-purpose yards for the Tigers. Murphy became the first Tiger to have two returns for scores in the same game with his 70-yard and 72-yard TD returns. His two punt return TDs also tie an NCAA and SEC record.
The last SEC player to accomplish the feat was Kentucky's Derek Abney in 2002. Murphy tallied 180 punt return yards (5 attempts) and 32 rushing yards on five carries in the game.
