Mizzou's Sharp earns SEC Freshman of the Week Award
COLUMBIA – The SEC league office announced Mizzou’s infielder and catcher Brian Sharp was named SEC Freshman of the Week Monday. Sharp grabbed the second Freshman of the Week honor in as many weeks for the Tigers after Connor Brumfield earned the award last week for his 10-RBI display down in Florida.
Sharp had a superb week for the Black and Gold. He helped Mizzou to a 4-1 record both on the mound and at the plate. He scored his second career win and second career save, while hitting .333 with three runs and a pair of RBI’s offensively.
His save came against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Tuesday to preserve a 2-0 team shutout. Again as the closer Friday night, Sharp took home the victory against UIC, courtesy of a Ryan Howard walk-off three run blast. It was the second straight week Sharp managed a win and a save for Mizzou.
At the dish, Sharp strung together two multi-hit games driving in runs twice, including a vital insurance run in the 2-0 win over UAPB.
Sharp and the Tigers are back in action at home against Alabama A&M for a midweek series beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m.
