Mizzou women's basketball team wins, but many unable to watch
COLUMBIA — The Mizzou women's basketball team beat the Brigham Young University Cougars in the first round of the NCAA Women's Championship Saturday night, but many fans had a difficult time finding the game on TV.
Missouri beat BYU 78-69 in the game, which started at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Austin, Texas.
ESPN2 broadcast the game, but it also showed other college basketball games on the same channel, so many local Missouri fans couldn't watch.
Columbia resident Stephen Vyskocil said he thinks preference is shown to men's basketball.
"The NCAA tournament, a lot of people focus on just the men's basketball," Vyskocil said. "The women's basketball is just as exciting."
Vyskocil said this is definitely an exciting time for college basketball.
"A lot of folks bet on the sport, especially during March Madness time," Vyskocil said.
The last time the team appeared in the NCAA tournament was 2006.
The Tigers are set to play the Texas Longhorns in the next round.
