MKT Goes Underground
McGuire is talking about the MKT Trail. A new tunnel will let bikers and walkers go under the intersection of Stewart and Providence roads.
More tunnels will let people avoid vehicles on Locust and Elm streets, as trail users get a glimpse of life without traffic lights.
When the system is complete, "A trail user will be able to get on the trail in downtown Columbia at Fourth and Cherry, go down to the Katy Trail 9 miles away, and never have to cross a road," said Mike Snyder, senior planner for Columbia's Parks and Recreation Department.
"I think it's very user friendly," added McGuire. "In other words, they're creating this project for the users of the MKT, both the people who walk it and the people who ride it."
Parks and Rec expects the tunnels to open in late summer or early fall.
