MLB Draft: Padres Select Missouri Pitcher Stites in 17th Round
COLUMBIA - Missouri baseball saw its first player taken in the 2011 Major League Baseball amateur draft Tuesday afternoon.
The San Diego Padres selected Tigers pitcher Matt Stites in the 17th round. Stites recorded three wins and a 3.72 earned run average over 92 innings pitched on the season. He also struck out 77 batters and threw one complete game.
Other Tigers who figure to be drafted include relief pitcher Phil McCormick and designated hitter Jonah Schmidt.
