MLK Memorial Re-Dedicated
The Martin Luther King Memorial at the MKT Trail entrance on Stadium Boulevard was re-dedicated Monday night. The landmark was first built in the late 1980's. After water damage ruined the tiles of the memorial, the city decided it needed restoration. Finishing touches were put on the memorial this week. It features eight pillars which all bear a quote by King. Many Columbians are excited about the ceremony.
"Martin was a great man and we need to always honor him not just on special occasions, but he should be a forefront even on a daily basis as far as I'm concerned because he really was so great," Columbia resident Vivian Patrick said.
The re-dedication falls on the 43rd anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
