JEFFERSON CITY - Lawmakers endorse a funding boost for college scholarships and health centers that serve low-income citizens. The House Tuesday approved adding $28 million to two scholarship programs and $60 million to federally qualified health centers. Last month the governor's budget director told the House Budget Committee that proposed funding boosts were needed to show Gov. Blunt's commitment to a deal reached with legislative leaders. That deal is designed to get legislative support for a proposal to sell assets of the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority for a campus building boom. Democratic critics say the additional funding should have come in a normal budget and not as an addition to the current operating budget.
