Mo. Lawyer Indicted for Marriage Fraud
JEFFERSON CITY - A Jefferson City lawyer is accused of helping two non-citizens find U.S. citizens to marry so they could stay in the U.S.
The U.S. Attorney for Western Missouri said in a release Tuesday that 60-year-old James D. Barding and three others are charged with conspiring to defraud the U.S.
Barding's accused of helping a 38-year-old Ukrainian woman, Darya Chernova, of Chandler, Ariz., enlist a citizen to marry her so she could remain in the country.
Barding and Chernova are accused of helping a Ukrainian man, Oleksandr N. Druzenko, who works at the Missouri Office of Administration, find a U.S. citizen, Patricia Ewalt, of El Paso, Texas, to marry so he could gain permanent resident status.
Lawyers for Barding, Ewalt and Druzenko didn't return calls seeking comment. Chernova's lawyer declined comment.
