Mo. Man Charged with Fatally Shooting His Mother
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - A suburban Kansas City man has been charged with fatally shooting his mother in her home. Fifty-eight-year-old Richard Ohearn of Independence was charged Saturday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Prosecutors requested a cash bond of $500,000. It's not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
A detective wrote in the probable cause statement that a man called 911 on Friday night to report that his mother had been shot and was dead. The detective said Ohearn answered the door when police responded. Inside, officers found 78-year-old Nancy Ohearn dead on the floor.
The statement said officers found a handgun and ammunition on the living room piano. The detective wrote that when the suspect was transported to police headquarters, he spontaneously uttered "I killed my mother, didn't I?"
