Mo Man Who Shot Himself After Police Chase Dies
CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - A southeast Missouri man who shot himself after assaulting a woman and leading police on a chase has died.
Cape Girardeau authorities say 43-year-old Sean M. Smith died Tuesday, a week after the chase and shooting.
Police say Smith allegedly assaulted a woman in a wooded area on March 4. Two days later, police spotted Smith who fled, prompting a chase. Police say when his vehicle was stopped and Smith was on the ground, he shot himself in the head.
The Southeast Missourian reports Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said the investigation appears to be over, but he will review more police reports before officially ending the case.
