Mo. Sen. Wright-Jones Report Misses $95K
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A new campaign report for a Missouri state senator does not account for how more than $95,000 was spent recently.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saturday that Missouri state Sen. Robin Wright-Jones filed a campaign report last August showing that she had almost $96,000 in the bank. Her new report, however, showed $211 on hand and didn't account for how more than $95,000 was spent.
State law requires political candidates to track each dollar in their campaign accounts, and says those accounts cannot be used for personal expenses.
Wright-Jones, a Democrat from St. Louis, blames the campaign cash discrepancy on errors by her treasurer, who she said fell ill. Wright-Jones also said that unaccounted for campaign money was spent on legitimate expenses, but said they were not recorded properly.
