Mo. Teen Trapped in Car for Nearly 2 Days Recovers
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) -- Three years after a western Missouri teenager spent a day and a half trapped in his car, he is still recovering from his near-death experience.
Rescuers found 17-year-old Jacob Fischer of Independence in a brush-covered ravine on Nov. 1, 2008. He says he doesn't remember why he lost control of his car and slammed into a tree before going into the ditch.
Kansas City firefighter Michael Jordan said he had never seen anyone survive a wreck as bad as Fischer's.
But he did survive a long recovery process that involved dozens of leg surgeries..
And the Kansas City Star reports that despite continuing nerve and brain damage, Fischer is walking again. He works at an auto-parts store and plans to go to nursing school.
