Mo. Woman Has Trouble Convincing Bank She's Alive
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis County woman has filed a federal lawsuit against her bank and a major credit bureau after spending nearly a year trying to convince them she is still alive.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Kimberly Haman claims she has been blocked twice from refinancing her home's mortgage to get a lower rate and also couldn't get a credit card because she was listed by the bank as deceased.
Haman, a St. Louis financial services supervisor, says she complained repeatedly to the bank and Equifax, but despite their assurances the problem never got resolved.
A spokeswoman for Equifax told a reporter after being asked about the lawsuit that its staffers had blocked Haman's bank so its information would no longer appear on her credit report.
