Moberly Man's Struggle Unites Town
MOBERLY - A dinner benefit Friday night will help a Moberly man who needs a double kidney transplant. At 30 years old, Dewayne was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, or double kidney failure. He learned he would have to wait for new kidneys.
Dewayne was told he'd only had to wait up to 18 months for a kidney transplant, but that wait turned into 8 years. Last week, Long and his family finally got the news they'd been waiting for, Long would get a kidney transplant.
In order to get that transplant, the Long's will have to live in Chicago for a month and a half. The family will have to cover the expenses of their stay, including hotel and food.
With the help of Moberly First Assembly of God Church and Faithwalk Church in Paris, the family has raised $5,000. The family needs up to $10,000 to cover all the expenses of their stay in Chicago.
Friday's benefit dinner at the Moberly First Assembly of God Church starts at 6:00pm. Guests can enjoy music, a meal, and a silent auction.
To donate money you can call 660-263-4361 or send it to Moberly First Assembly of God at 120 West Outer Road, Moberly, MO 65270.
