Moberly police warn of new phone scam
MOBERLY - The Moberly Police Department has received information of a new phone scam being used in the Moberly area.
The caller claims to be a representative calling from Ameren UE. The caller then inquires about the consumer usage report that was mailed to the customer and that the report/survey had not been returned.
The caller then claims since the report/survey was not returned, the customer will be fined a monetary amount and threatens to turn off the consumer's electricity.
The caller requests a money order be sent to an address which is not the business address for Ameren UE.
The Moberly Police Department said Ameren UE customer service was contacted and is in no way calling their customers about any survey or usage report.
MPD advises anyone receiving a call of this nature to use caution, as it may be a scam.
Moberly police said if any Ameren UE customers are concerned about calls claiming to be from Ameren UE, they can use the customer service number listed on their last utility bill.
