MACON COUNTY - MoDOT announced Tuesday it will indefinitely close the Route T bridge over the Middle Fork of the Chariton River west of College Mound due to unsafe conditions.

MoDOT said during an inspection, it was found the beams of the bridge had "significant deterioration." MoDOT closed the bridge around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and said it is unknown how long the bridge will remain closed.

The bridge was originally built in 1961 and lengthened in 1984. MoDOT said about 390 vehicles cross it daily.

MoDOT said drivers will need to take alternate routes like U.S. Route 36, Missouri Route 3 and Macon County Route F while the bridge is closed.
