COLUMBIA - MoDOT crews spent Monday morning surveying land around bridge construction on Paris Road in Columbia. Workers spent the morning marking spots where support beams will be built for a new bridge.
MoDOT closed both Paris Road and parts of Business Loop 70 Friday when construction began. Crews worked through the weekend to demolish the old Route B bridge on Paris Road.
While the bridge will remain closed for the next 63 days, Business Loop 70 reopened for traffic Monday morning. MoDOT said the bridge will reopen by Sept. 15.
MoDOT has provided alternate routes for drivers travelling on Paris Road. Northbound drivers can take a left on nearby Ammonette Street leading to Old Highway 63. From there, drivers can access Business Loop 70 going both directions. To get to the northern part of Route B, drivers can turn left onto Hathman Place off of Business Loop 70.
Southbound travelers on Route B can take a left on Hathman Place to access Business Loop 70. To rejoin Route B, drivers can take a left on Old Highway 63 south and then take a right on Ammonette Street.
Crews expect digging to start Tuesday morning.
