MoDOT Sweeps State Recycling Awards
JEFFERSON CITY - For the second time, the Missouri Department of Transportation has received both the individual and state agency recycling awards for outstanding contributions made to recycling collections and waste reduction.
MoDOT winners included senior material inspector Curtis Dowden, and MoDOT's New Franklin Parkway Project team.
Dowden began and plastics recycling program two years ago in Willow Springs. Since the start of the program he has collected an average of 70 pounds of plastic each week from various MoDOT locations then stores what he collect and sells it.
The New Franklin Project which worked on removing over the Katy Trail made recycling a part of the project during the initial planning process, this resulted in saving and preventing 10,00 tons of material from going to the landfill.
