MOHELA Passes in House
The plan will take money from the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) to finance building projects at public colleges and universities around the state.
The House passed the bill on a 91-to-64 vote Monday, sending it to Blunt. The Senate passed the bill last month.
The fight may not be over. A Democratic lawmaker vowed to use a rare citizen petition to try to put the legislation to a statewide vote. Besides the building program, the bill also creates a new college scholarship and limits university tuition increases.
Senator Chuck Graham (D-Columbia) says that the bill was expected to pass today in the House. He also noted that all representatives, Democrat or Republican, from Boone county voted against the bill.
