More Traffic on Whitton
MoDOT predicts a big traffic increase on Whitton Expressway in the next several years when the state prison is redeveloped into a new federal courthouse. Public meetings are one way to make the process a two way street.
"What ideas does the public have? You know, at this point, everything is pretty wide open. So the process that is going to take place over the next two years, we're going to start with all these ideas and gradually work our way down to what we call a preferred alternative," said Mike Dusenberg of the MoDOT Central District.
The improvements to Whitton Expressway will be between Missouri Boulevard and Eastland Drive. Changes would include a new interchange to the re-developed Missouri State Penitentiary. That new interchange could affect Quinn Chapel. Congregation members attended the meeting to stay informed.
"Not only are we community minded and concerned about the future of our church, we're concerned about the neighborhood, the east side neighborhood, and the members who live there," said Rev. Margaret Redmons, of the Quinn Chapel AME Church.
MoDOT plans to hold more public meetings during the two year approval process.
