Morgan County Police Join "Click it or Ticket" Initiative
MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. - The Morgan County Sheriff's Office joins the statewide "Click It or Ticket" mobilization to crack down on drivers not wearing seat belts.
According to Morgan County Police, 7 out of 10 people killed in Missouri crashes did not wear seat belts. They say Missouri's seat belt use has not changed much in the past 6 years and is below the national average.
Morgan County Police say Missouri has 79 percent seat belt use, which is well below the national average of 85 percent. Teens and pick-up truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at 66 and 63 percent.
"Every day someone dies in a crash in Missouri because they weren't buckled up," said Jim Petty Sheriff. "We will be pulling out all the stops to ensure motorists are buckling up."
Police say seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
