Mother Arraigned as Baby Holds On
Monday an Iberia mother made her first appearance in court after prosecutors charged her with setting her infant's blanket on fire.
The infant is in critical condition at University Hospital.
Prosecutors charged Christina White with one count of arson. She's also charged with three counts of child endangerment - one for each of her children.
After entering the courtroom, she turned to face the wall except when standing before the judge. White applied for a public defender because she has not been able to find her own attorney. Her next court appearance is Wednesday.
Her youngest son is in critical condition with burns covering most of his body. Her two daughters are being held in protective custody.
The Miller County Sheriff has requested she be held without bond.
KOMU talked with members of White's family Monday. None of them wanted to speak on camera.
Her father did say the family is trying to get custody of White's two daughters.
None of the family attended her arraignment.
The Miller County Sheriff's department says it's being slow and thorough in the investigation.
