Motorists Urged to Cross Missouri River in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY - The Missouri Department of Transportation wants travelers crossing the Missouri River in northern and western Missouri to cross in Kansas City. Flooding along the Missouri River has caused MoDOT to close all but two bridges north of Kansas City. Route 36 at St. Joseph and Route 92 into Leavenworth are both open, but prone to congestion.
"We want to route people around flooding and congestion as much as possible, especially over the July 4th holiday," Beth Wright, MoDOT's state maintenance engineer, said.
Motorists can stay current on closings, construction and congestion by viewing MoDOT's interactive traveler map. Travelers can use the following bridges to cross the Missouri River in Kansas City:
Route 13 in Lexington
Route 291 in Sugar Creek
I-435 in Kansas City
Chouteau Bridge in Kansas City
1-29/I-35/US 71 Icon Bridge in Kansas City
Heart of America, Route 9 in Kansas City
Broadway, Route 169 in Kansas City
Fairfax, Route 69 in Riverside
1-635 in Riverside
I-435 in Parkville
