SWEET SPRINGS - There were hugs and tears as family members and friends said goodbye to three-year-old Blake Litton Friday evening. Blake was killed last week. His mother and her boyfriend are charged with his murder.

More than 100 people got together at the old elementary school in Sweet Springs for a candlelight vigil to pay their respects. Blake's grandparents and biological father live across the street from the elementary school and picked that location so they could watch the vigil from their home if they felt they couldn't make it.

"It's just amazing to have people that will still come together. You know it, as many things as you lose in life anymore, there's still people willing to come together for a good cause," organizer of the event Sarah Welch said.

Family members hung banners with pictures of Blake and laid out roses for him.  Everyone at the vigil sang "Take me out to the Ballgame" for Blake and said prayers.

"He was smiling all the time...so I think that's the one thing everybody can say about him is he smiled all the time," family friend Michelle Fuehring said. "He was a happy little guy, happy little guy, big eyes, smiling. That's how we'll remember him."

When KOMU asked Blake's aunt what her favorite memory of Blake was, she said there were too many good memories.

Litton's mother, Jamie Litton and her boyfriend, Thomas Presley, are charged with second-degree murder in Blake's death. Police say Presley beat Blake to death, then tried to cover it up by staging a hit-and-run accident.

"Child abuse needs to be stopped. It needs to be reported whether you see something, hear something, think you hear something, just report it, Welch said. "

The mourners also sang happy birthday at the vigil-- Blake would have turned four next Monday. If you would like to donate to the Litton family, you can contact the First Community Bank in Sweet Springs.
