MU Gets Grant for Cancer Research
Dr. Fan wants to have the equipment up and running within two years.
And, Professor John Viator will use his grant for a laser device to find melanoma cells. He said the device could be sensitive enough to detect a single melanoma cell in a single, small blood sample.
"It allows patients who already have cancer to know if they have a relapse of cancer, or if it's gone into remission, or how prevalent these cancer cells are throughout the body," he explained.
If Viator and Fan succeed, their devices also will save time, money and lives for cancer patients.
