MU LGBTQ Resource Center hosts healthy relationships workshop
COLUMBIA - The MU LGBTQ Resource Center hosted a Become MPOWERed: healthy relationships workshop for gay, bi, trans and queer men this afternoon.
The workshop was designed to empower participants through conversation and activities. Sponsored by Men's Leadership and Activites Network (MLAN), participants gathered on the resource center's couches to discuss safe-sex practices and the importance of getting tested regularly.
"The workshop is very unique because a lot of times, men don't have the opportunity to talk about these very sensitive and important issues with one another," Matthew Grover, MLAN Coordinator and workshop facilitator said. "It creates a sense of community and it also provides other people the opportunity to learn new perspectives."
The workshop is one of the many events offered during Gay Pride Month at the LGBTQ Resource Center. Grover hopes participants take the knowledge they gain from this workshop into the Columbia community.
"We really sustain a community outside of this three hour workshop," Grover said. "We spend a lot of time together and have a lot of fun at these different events."
