MU Softball Prepping for NCAA Regionals
COLUMBIA, Mo - The Missouri Tiger Softball team had practice this afternoon on University Field, two days before the NCAA Regionals are scheduled to begin. Mizzou will play the Illinois State Redbirds on Friday night at 6:30.
The Tigers are hosting the NCAA Regionals for the third consecutive year, and aiming for a third consecutive trip to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Coach Ehren Earlywine had led Mizzou to the National tournament in all five of his years on the job.
The Big 12 Coach of the Year claims this is not only his best Tiger team, but the best team he has ever coached, and he earned ACC Coach of the Year Honors at Georgia Tech.
"I'm really flattered that my peers think enough of me to vote for me. But any coach knows that these awards are primarily the result of having good players. And I have a lot of good players that allow me to get to this position." said Coach Earlywine.
Tiger third baseman Nicole Hudson added, "We have a very talented group and I think it would be very hard not to hand out those awards. I'm just really happy for the rest of my teammates and Meghan with co-defensive player, I don't think there is anyone more deserving.
"Rhea has to steal bases and make other catchers look bad so I get accelades. But nothing is won alone and we win accelades as a team and winning the world series as a team" said senior catcher Megan Christopher.
Tiger pitcher Chelsea Thomas said, "You know, there was a big group of seniors last year. You know they put everything on the line and I think we've all come together and it's been a really special year so far."
