MU Softball Team Finishes Season
The Mizzou softball team needed to beat DePaul not once, but twice today in Carbondale, Illniois to win a regional championship in the NCAA tournament. But after the Blue Demons took a 1-nothing lead in the first, the ladies from MU weren't able to bounce back. DePaul shut out MU 3-0, ending the Tigers' season.
At a press conference after the game, MU coach Ehren Earleywine and his players were disappointed with the loss, but proud of a season full of positive changes.
"So many balls firm... I bet we had 10, 12, maybe even 15 firm hit balls, and only a handfull of them got through," said Earleywine. "We just felt snakebit offensively, and sometimes that's the way it goes, you just hit it right at them."
"We were pre-seasoned picked like, 8th, in the Big 12," said junior outfielder Micaela Minner. "I think Coach E came in and did a great job, just got us set back straight... just mechanics, and broke us down, and showed us how to play the game."
"For the most part, I just tried to bring some fun back into it for them," Coach Earleywine said about his goals for the season. "And, because, they're pretty talented kids, as you can see, you know, they played a lot of good teams close. So the main thing for me was letting them enjoy it, let them play, build confidence, encourage, and it worked okay."
