MU Student Dies in Motorcycle Accident
COLUMBIA - A young woman riding on a motorcycle died Monday when the bike hit a curb on Nifong Boulevard in Columbia. Police say the bike hit the curb, flew through the air and landed some 20-feet away.
21-year-old Aaron Hansberry was driving the motorcycles and was transported to the University Hospital and treated for a broken leg. The female victim was identified as 20-year-old Caitlin Valora was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe Hansberry was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but removed it to place the phone call to emergency services. A helmet was on the ground next to him but officers did not locate another helmet.
Both Hansberry and Valora are listed in the University of Missouri-Columbia’s student directory as being University students.
The cause of death of Valora will be determined by the Boone County Medical Examiner’s office.
