MU Wrestlers Going to the National Duels
Other than the NCAA Championships in March, this is the biggest competition of the season. The Tigers open on Saturday morning with a match against Penn and could face Oklahoma State in the semifinals.
"We're going to the National Duels to win it, and this will give us a taste of winning the National Duels, and then the next focus is the Big Twelves and Nationals. This team wants to win everything, so it doesn't surprise me that they're saying we're going to win it," Head Coach Brian Smith said.
Senior Ben Askren says some still don't believe in the Tigers. "I don't think we're putting that much pressure on ourselves, but it's definitely important to make a statement just because of the fact that everyone is there, and you know, even though we beat Minnesota last week, and they're number two in the nation, everyone is still doubting us."
"The only statement that we're going to make is that we're going to win it. You know what I'm saying, if you take second, I don't know, it's kind of like you got subtitled or something," Freshman Max Askren added.
