MUPD, CPD to address reported robberies targeting college students
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department was investigating reports of armed robberies in the downtown Columbia area Wednesday. They said the suspects appeared to be targeting college-aged students.
Columbia Police Assistant Chief Jeremiah Hunter and MU Interim Chancellor Hank Foley held a press conference at 2:30 Wednesday about the break ins.
CPD said all four robberies happened between 12:55 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. on July 12.
The robberies all involved two black males approaching the victims and demanding property. One of the suspects had a gun.
The University of Missouri Police Department said it hopes to help ensure awareness of crimes that may impact safety to faculty, staff and students. While the crimes did not occur on the MU campus, the MU community might live in the area where the reported crimes occurred.
MUPD and CPD officials encourage victims to report all crimes and work with law enforcement to help reduce crime in the MU and Columbia community. Anyone with additional information to contact Crimestoppers at 573-875-TIPS.
