Murder Charges After Four Months
Winfred Kidd was shot and killed on the night of August 28th. Now witness stories are starting to paint a clear picture.
Kidd was murdered outside of Westgate Lanes bowling alley four months ago. After careful examination, the Cole County prosecutor is charging 17-year-old Jeffrey Abbott for Kidd's death.
Abbott allegedly shot Kidd three times outside of the bowling alley. Prosecuting Attorney Bill Tackett claims the four months it took to charge Abbott were necessary.
"You want to have all the pieces to the puzzle before you go forward in this kind of a shooting," he explained. "And it took us a while, and there were a lot of people that wanted us to go ahead and push this. But, you've got to be disciplined enough to wait."
Prosecutors will charge Abbott with voluntary manslaughter, a class B felony, and armed criminal action, which could mean a life sentence. A preliminary hearing is set for next week. The judge also set a million dollar bond for this case.
