Murder Suspect Dead
The suspect, 44-year-old James Ahart, was suspected of killing his ex-wife, Cynthia around 8:30 Monday evening.
Jefferson City police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance, where they found 46-year-old Cynthia Ahart on the ground. The victim's sister was performing CPR, and said that James shot the victim and fled the scene. Cynthia was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cole County prosecutor issued a warrant for Ahart, who hid from police in his home.
Ahart held police at bay until 8:20 this morning when a Missouri State Highway Patrol robot was brought to the scene. It found Ahart in a back bedroom. SWAT members went inside and confirmed he was dead.
"The suspect we were looking for has been determined he was in the apartment and he has fatal injuries," said officer Paul Reinsch.
Right now the apartment is still blocked off so police can continue the investigation.
