Murder Suspects Arrested
Police out of Murphysboro, Illinois were searching for the pair when Columbia police caught up with them this morning.
It happened at Mikel Road, just off the business loop and I-70.
Tuesday, police got word that the suspects might be in Columbia.
So detectives got pictures of the two. And when police came by this road this morning, a detective saw one of the guys standing out in the open on that porch.
The SWAT team came in on what the police call a code red response, the highest level of police response, also involving the Crisis Negotiation Team.
And after about 25 minutes of surrounding the house, the two men surrendered.
They are Terrance Vinson and Michael Thompson.
Murphysboro police have been hunting for them for about a week.
They're charged with kidnapping and killing a man back in Illinois.
Folks living near the scene said they cannot believe the two were caught just feet away.
"It's kind of scary knowing that's in my neighborhood, and I'm supposed to be watching kids, that's what I do for a living," said resident Sandy Cook, who saw the arrest. "And knowing that's right across the street from my house, that's really scary."
Wednesday night Murphysboro detectives were on their way to investigate. The suspects are being held at the Columbia Police Department.
