Murphy and Ray receive all-SEC weekly honors
COLUMBIA - Mizzou tailback Marcus Murphy hauled in another award from the SEC and defensive end Shane Ray tallied his third honor from the conference this year.
The SEC named Murphy as the All-SEC Special Team's Player of the Week, and it named Ray Defensive Lineman of the Week after a 42-13 win against Florida Saturday.
Murphy was the Tigers' offensive catalyst against the Gators by totaling 197 return yards and 27 rushing yards in the blowout victory.
He returned the opening kickoff 96 yards to give the Tigers a quick 7-0 advantage. He then added a second touchdown, this one a 5 yard run from the running back position to put the Tigers up 14-0 late in the 1st quarter. He returned Florida's first punt 82 yards in the second half to put the game out of reach at 28-0.
Ray had two of Mizzou's six sacks in the victory. He currently leads the SEC with 10 sacks and ranks third nationally in sacks.
Murphy was the 2012 SEC Special Teams Player of the Year, and he was named to the 2013 All-SEC Second Team.
Ray won Defensive Lineman of the Week honors three weeks ago in a win against South Carolina. He also won SEC Defensive Player of the Week in the Tiger's victory against UCF.
