COLUMBIA - Mizzou football player Marcus Murphy has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2013 Paul Hornung Award. The award is given annually to the most versatile player in college football. The Mizzou junior tailback is among 44 players announced on Friday from across the nation to make the watch list.
Murphy is coming off a very successful 2012 season. Murphy was a Second Team All-American and First Team All-SEC honoree last season. Last year he was 10th in the nation and second in the SEC with a punt return average of 13.85 yards. He was also dangerous returning kickoffs finishing fifth in the conference with a kickoff return average of 24.11 yards.
Last years winner of the Paul Hornung Award was West Virginia's Tavon Austin. Austin will be a rookie in the NFL with the St.Louis Rams this coming season.
