MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley College cheerleading squad were the champions at the Elite Championships National Competition in Carthage, Missouri this past weekend. The Viking cheerleading squad competed against other college cheerleading squads from across the Midwest taking first place in the Collegiate Division competition.

By taking first place at the competition the Viking cheerleading squad was awarded National Championship jackets, a National Championship banner, and a National Championship Trophy.

The revenues from the Elite National Championship competition were used to help rebuild the Joplin area, which is still recovering from the May 2011 tornado that devastated that community.

The Viking cheerleaders are coached by Kristin Lyming.
