MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley College football team moved up one spot to No. 2 in this week's NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Pollreleased this afternoon. This is the highest ranking the MVC football program has ever achieved in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll. This No. 2 ranking comes after the loss of last week's No. 1 team, Marian University.
The Vikings are coming off a 35-21 win over then ranked No. 15 Evangel University to move to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The win Saturday also gave MVC at least a share of the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship, which gives the team back-to-back conference titles and is the twelfth overall HAAC championship for the program.
MVC is one of only three remaining undefeated teams in NAIA football, along with No. 1 Georgetown (Ky.), and No. 3 Morningside (Iowa.). Four other HAAC schools are ranked in this week's poll including No. 11 MidAmerica Nazarene University, No. 12 Baker University, No. 19 Evangel University, and No. 25 Benedictine College.
The No. 2 ranked Vikings will host Central Methodist University Saturday afternoon at Gregg-Mitchell Field with kickoff at 1:30 p.m. A win over the Eagles would give MVC an outright conference championship title.
