MARSHALL, MO -- Former Missouri Valley College Offensive Lineman Stephon Kelly has been invited to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie mini-camp beginning Friday, May 3.
The rookie mini-camp runs through Sunday, and Kelly says this will be an opportunity for him to potentially earn a contract with the Buccaneers and return later this summer to the team's preseason camp.
Kelly was a two-time first team all-Heart of America Athletic Conference selection as an offensive lineman for the Vikings, helping guide the MVC football team to back-to-back HAAC championships, two appearances in the NAIA Championship Series and a semifinal appearance in 2012.
"I feel very honored and grateful to have this opportunity to showcase my talent for the Buccaneers," Kelly said. I'll be missing my graduation ceremony on Saturday, but this will be worth it."
Kelly said that he was first contacted by a member of the Tampa Bay coaching staff prior to the NFL Draft and was told that there was a possibility he could be invited to their rookie mini-camp.
"Everyone in the Missouri Valley College football family is excited for Stephon's opportunity," said Head Football Coach Paul Troth. "Stephon is a very hard worker and we hope he can make the best of this opportunity."
