National Guard Responds to Ice Storm
The troops were sent to areas around Springfield and St. Louis which were hardest hit. More than 350 National Guard members were deployed to respond to the first round of the ice storm.
"250 will be in the St. Louis county, St. Charles area and 110 will be in the Springfield area dealing with southwest Missouri issues," says Captain Dave Dillon.
There are an extra ten guards there as administrative officials.
An estimated 200,000 homes are without power in those areas. The National Guard gives the following advice for possible power outages after the ice hits.
"Stay away from things that aren't appropriate for warmth, like a stove, and bundle up to keep warm," Dillon adds on.
The governor says he expects the weather to get worse before it gets better. National Guard troops don't know how long they'll be helping out.
