National Weather Service confirms EF-1 tornado in Randolph County
RANDOLPH COUNTY - The National Weather Service confirmed parts of Randolph County were indeed hit by an EF-1 tornado on Monday evening. This classification means the NWS found evidence of winds between 86 to 110 mph.
According to a report released Tuesday afternoon, the tornado had 100 mph winds. Its path was 11.2 miles long and had a maximum width of 30 yards.
It hit Higbee at 4:54 p.m. and Renick at 5:09 p.m. There was one confirmed injury.
Officials were unable to confirm the tornado Monday night because they had to wait until investigators could look at evidence during daylight hours.
