SALINE COUNTY - The Central Missouri Stop Human Trafficking Coalition will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon and the main topic of discussion is a first-ever "Report Human Trafficking" billboard in mid-Missouri along I-70 in Saline County.
The billboard will read, "People are being sold. Report it." then displays the national human trafficking hotline number.
Co-chair Nanette Ward said the billboard displays a very important message because human trafficking occurs in mid-Missouri more than people think, especially along I-70. She said the coalition wants to use the billboard to show the community that it can be the eyes and ears of trafficking.
Billboard company Lamar offered to donate the monthly billboard fee, but the coalition is still looking for donations for the production fee. Ward said the coalition had to pay $1,500 out of pocket and so far, has received a few hundred dollars from the public.
Ward said the billboard will appear along I-70 near Exit 71 within the next two weeks.
The coalition's meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. at the Parkade Center in Columbia and is open to the public.
To donate money for the billboard, visit the coalition's website and make your donation through PayPal. Ward said to e-mail the coalition at firstname.lastname@example.org to specify you are donating to the billboard.
