New Documents in Alyssa Bustamante Case
JEFFERSON CITY - The Cole County Prosecutor's Office released additional documents in the case against Alyssa Bustamante. Her defense attorney is trying to protest state DNA testing because there is a possiblity there will not be enough DNA evidence for additional independent testing.
The Cole County Sheriffs Department took Bustamante into custody in December 2009 for the murder of nine year-old Elizabeth Olten.
The Cole County Prosecutor wants evidence submitted in the Bustamante trial tested by the Missouri Highway Crime Lab without the the defendant's council present. If there are outside witnesses during the testing, the crime lab would violate procedure. Documents show a court hearing was held on Aug. 5 by telephone to discuss the DNA testing.
