COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri Women's and Children's Hospital celebrated the new, expanded kid focused emergency room with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.
The old emergency room was rejuvenated and now includes seven rooms specifically for children and six rooms for adults. The space has a kid-friendly jungle flair.
The chief of pediatric emergency medicine, Dr. George Koburov said having an emergency room dedicated to children is important because going to the emergency room can be a scary experience for kids.
He said the new space along with the doctors and nurses will help kids feel comfortable and in turn ease the minds of parents whose kids are in the emergency room.
