COLUMBIA - About $15,000 worth of fireworks are set to explode over downtown Columbia. The annual "Fire in the Sky" display is scheduled to start at 9 p.m., according to the Columbia's Park and Recreation Department.
Fireworks will be shot from the top of the Sixth and Cherry parking garage. The display will be synced to the music on KBXR 102.3 FM. The display will last for about twenty minutes.
Karen Chandler from Columbia's Park and Recreation Department said this is the first time the fireworks display is taking place from downtown Columbia instead of Memorial Stadium. The stadium is currently undergoing renovations.
"There are usually 15,000 people inside the stadium... and another thousand cars parked around the stadium," said Chandler.
The Columbia Fire Department will be at the event to make sure that everything is under control.
The event is free and concessions will be available for purchase.
