New Missouri Director of Mental Health starts job
JEFFERSON CITY - The new Director for the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) started his job Wednesday.
Mark Stringer was appointed to the position by Gov. Jay Nixon in June after Director Keith Schafer announced his retirement.
The appointment required a Senate approval.
Missouri Mental Health Commissioner Steve Roling said, "We look forward to the Department's continued growth and success with current initiatives and we know Mark will strengthen existing relationships and build new ones as well as carry on the innovative thinking of Keith Schafer and the DMH Senior Management Team."
A news release said Stringer has served in the mental health field more than 28 years and served in the Department of Mental Health for 16 years in various roles. He was most recently DMH Director for the Division of Behavioral Health.
Stringer's appointment came after a 60-day national search. A panel reviewed applications applications, interviewed candidates and made recommendations to the Mental Health Commission, which made the final decision.
