New Missouri Senate Redistricting Panel Named
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed the members of a commission responsible for drawing new state Senate districts.
The Missouri Supreme Court rejected an earlier Senate redistricting plan and ordered that the process start anew. Nixon on Tuesday appointed five Republicans and five Democrats who were nominated by their respective parties.
The Republicans include St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann, Cole County Commissioner Marc Ellinger and attorney Lowell Pearson of Columbia.
Democrats include former state House member Trent Skaggs of Kansas City and attorney Doug Harpool of Springfield, who chaired the earlier Senate redistricting panel.
The new commission will hold its first meeting Feb. 18 in Jefferson City.
Boundaries of Missouri's 34 Senate districts are being redrawn to account for changes in population since the 2000 census.
