COLUMBIA - New Mizzou tiger logo signs made their début Sunday replacing the old "M" logo. The new oval shaped logo featuring an MU tiger now hangs tall on the Providence Road pedestrian bridge.

This is the first project regarding the logo replacements, said Roger Crumpton, the associate athletic director for facilities and events. Crumpton said new logos will replace more of the old around the football stadium soon. The goal is to get as much done before the season starts, he said.

"The reasoning for the replacements is simply the transition to the new logo or brand of the athletic department," Crumpton said. And Faurot Field already sports the new tiger logo.

"All the feedback that I've received has been positive. People that have seen pictures of the new field love it," he said.

MU football player Bud Sasser said he thinks the new logo is a good change. Sasser said it will help MU to be more distinguishable from other schools. Although the receiver gave positive feedback, he said he is more excited about the new league and the start of the new season.

Workers began the replacements early Sunday morning and the project is scheduled for completion by 5 p.m. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open and motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
